Installation

Configure the Tent UI registry and add your first component with the shadcn CLI.

Tent UI components are installed as source code through the shadcn CLI. There is no Tent UI runtime package to add or maintain.

Prerequisites

Before installing a component, make sure your project has:

  • A React framework supported by shadcn/ui
  • Tailwind CSS configured
  • A components.json file at the project root

If shadcn is not initialized yet, run:

pnpm dlx shadcn@latest init

The CLI detects your framework, configures aliases and styles, and creates components.json.

Add the registry

Add the @tentui registry to components.json:

components.json
{
  "registries": {
    "@tentui": "https://tentui.com/r/{name}.json"
  }
}

If the file already contains a registries object, add the @tentui entry alongside the existing registries instead of replacing them.

Install a component

Install an item by its registry name:

pnpm dlx shadcn@latest add @tentui/animated-arrow

You can also install an item directly from its registry URL without configuring the @tentui namespace:

pnpm dlx shadcn@latest add https://tentui.com/r/animated-arrow.json

The CLI copies the component into the path defined by your components alias and installs any required package or registry dependencies.

Install a block

Blocks use the same command and may add multiple components, assets, and dependencies:

pnpm dlx shadcn@latest add @tentui/hero-01

Review the generated files after installation. Blocks are intentionally complete starting points, so adapt their content, links, assets, and behavior before shipping.

Manual installation

Every component page includes a Manual installation tab with the required dependencies, source files, and import-path instructions. Use it when you do not want the CLI to modify your project.

Updating an item

Tent UI components live in your repository after installation and are not updated automatically. To pull a newer version, run the add command again and review the CLI's overwrite prompt and resulting diff before accepting it.

Your local changes belong to your project. Reconcile them manually when replacing an existing component.
